Manufacturer's representative or rep, manufacturer's broker and manufacturer's agent are all terms used to describe our firm. We are not paid a salary, just a percentage of the revenue for products we sell. Manufacturer's reps offer a practical, cost-effective alternative to a direct sales force for most manufacturers in the electronic security industry. There are more than half a million reps in North America, most selling to targeted markets in select geographic regions.
Using manufacturer's reps can provide you with many of the benefits of having a satellite office in the location--including knowledge of local markets and rapid access to large accounts without your incurring large fixed costs. With reps, sales costs are always a fixed percentage of sales. The downside is that reps typically handle many different products. Some may be complementary to yours; others may compete. Commission earnings depend on sales, although that amount varies widely depending on the product, market and sales volume.
We work with end users and contractors to help them reach their goals of implementing a security solution. We provide value as security experts, site consultants, design and specification assistants and as a proving ground before an investment is made. Our team typically accomplishes this goal by visiting your site for a walk through and meeting with all of the company stakeholders. We gather information and work to answer questions and design a solution. Upon acceptance we work to make field trips to existing installations or set a period of time aside to install a proof of concept.
